“Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain loving one another.” ~ Erma Bombeck

We Volunteer for YOU!

What Do We Do?

We offer a wide range of services

Posse duties range from patrolling Sun City neighborhoods, churches, recreation centers, and businesses, to assisting with traffic and parking at local events, checking the homes of residents who are gone for an extended period, and conducting wellness checks when a relative, friend or family member reports that a resident may be ill, injured, or missing.

As a trained Posse you also have opportunities to volunteer for Posse-sponsored community events such as the semi-annual Drug-Take-Back program, the annual Shred-A-Thon, our annual Open House, or staffing one of our recruitment booths held at community events. Our Posse Patrol is the community’s most visible reminder that the Posse is working to keep the community safer.

What many don’t realize is we also have a multitude of people working behind the scenes at headquarters. Our Posse Associates perform a wide array of duties to support both our patrol Posse, our other support services, and community events.

What is the Time Commitment? Each Posse member is expected to perform one 6 hour shift each week. Morning and evening shifts are available. Each member also commits to attending the monthly Posse general meeting and the monthly Operations meeting.

What about Training? All candidates receive 100 hours of training utilizing traditional classroom time and hands-on training including behind-the-wheel training where you become comfortable operating a cruiser and navigating Sun City streets. All training is provided free of charge. Upon successful completion of training, Posse are sworn in and ready for active duty.

Growth Opportunities Our organization offers experienced Posse a broad range of opportunities to utilize their life and career skills by taking on additional duties. Examples of positions are:

• Dispatcher | Duty Officer • Newsletter Editor | Scheduler • Administrative Assistant • Computer Networking & IT • Garage Worker | Scheduler • Building & Grounds Worker • Bookkeeping / Accounting

• Photographer | Fund Drive • Course Instructor | Color Guard • Front Desk Receptionist • Event Coordinator | Data Entry • Vacation Watch coordinator • Neighborhood Watch Coordinator • Community Outreach

Posse Associates If you’re interested in volunteering at the Posse but Posse patrol isn’t the right fit for you, you can volunteer as a Posse Associate. While our greatest demand is for trained posse, we also have openings for behind-the-scenes positions Most of the positions above do not require the skills of a sworn posse member and are filled by our Posse Associates. The time commitment for these positions is based on the needs of the position and your availability. Some of the positions we have include Dispatcher, Information Desk, Vacation Watch assistant, garage services, groundskeeper, newsletter editor, webmaster, and graphics design.

Making a Difference Our members join for a variety of reasons. Some enjoy community service, some want meaningful work or an opportunity to utilize skills they’ve spent a lifetime building. Maybe you’re intrigued by the fun of driving a patrol car, enjoy working with people, or want to help others and, perhaps, save a life. Some join for the comradery that comes with belonging to a vibrant and vital organization whose history spans nearly half a century. Whatever our personal reasons for joining, we all share the desire to make a difference. We hope you’ll consider joining our team at The Sun City Posse, where you can make a difference, too.
