The Sun City Posse
The Sun City Posse (the “Posse”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community service organization established in 1973, with nearly 50 years of continuous service to the Sun City community. The Posse is governed by an elected Board of Governors and an elected Commander, who serves as the highest-ranking officer on the Board. Above all, the Posse is comprised of your neighbors — residents dedicated to serving the place they call home.
Our Mission
We are dedicated to being the eyes and ears of our community and to providing reassurance for Sun City residents. You can see the Posse at work patrolling the streets of Sun City, visiting a resident whose family or neighbors are concerned for their welfare, checking on the homes of residents who are away on extended vacation, or searching the area for a resident who has wandered away. We assist the fire department by keeping streets clear so first responders can do their work, and we provide helpful services such as contacting a resident who has left a garage door open. Simply put, we want to be good neighbors.
Our Relationship with MCSO
The Posse is not law enforcement and is not connected to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). We patrol within the Sun City community, acting as the eyes and ears for MCSO, and our visible presence serves as a deterrent to would-be criminal activity throughout the community.
A Legacy of Service
In 2023, the Posse celebrated its 50th continuous year serving Sun City — a milestone that reflects a half-century of neighbors helping neighbors. The Posse owns its headquarters facility located at 10861 W. Sunland Drive where we operate a fleet of patrol vehicles, two of which are hybrids, and our long-range plan calls for the addition of more hybrid vehicles in the future. General maintenance is performed at a well-equipped garage on the headquarters property, where our volunteers ensure every vehicle remains road-worthy and safe.
The Services We Provide
A variety of Posse services are available to the community, including:
- Vacation Watch — checking on the homes of residents who are away
- Neighborhood Watch training programs conducted in conjunction with MCSO
- Funeral Watch of homes during memorial services
- Traffic and event parking control for local events
- Community services, including the recycling of electronics, shred-a-thons, drug take-back opportunities (with MCSO), the collection of eyeglasses and cell phones for repurposing, and the respectful disposal of worn U.S. flags
How the Posse Is Governed
The Posse is governed by a Board comprised of 8–12 Posse members, who are elected to three-year terms of office. A Posse member who meets the eligibility criteria outlined in the By-laws may run for Commander, a one-year term. The Commander becomes the highest-ranking member of the Board and leads the Posse’s day-to-day operations, assigning each board member oversight of various operational functions for that year. Because a new Commander is elected annually, the Commander may choose to reassign board members’ duties as needed.

Community Events
The Sun City Posse sponsors community events such as our popular recycling programs and periodic seminars to keep you up to date on scams and frauds that target residents in our area. We often partner with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), the Sun City Fire Department (SCFD), or local businesses to ensure we are providing the best information or service.
Two very special events each year are the Back-to-School Supplies Drive and the Holiday Toy Drive. Both are hugely successful and are conducted in collaboration with MCSO and the Sun City community.
Other popular events such as the Shred-a-thon, Drug Take Back, and more happen throughout the year, so don’t miss out. Information regarding our events and seminars is posted on our website, our Facebook page, on flyers in area businesses, and through advertising in the local newspaper. You may also call us at 623-972-2555 for more information at any time during regular business hours.
Joining the Posse
The Posse is an all-volunteer organization with more than 150 members who serve in a variety of roles. We respect the individuality of our volunteers and draw on the lifelong skills they bring from their careers and years of experience. With a range of volunteer opportunities available and in-house training provided, there is a place for everyone who wishes to serve. To learn more, contact Recruiting at 623-972-2555, Ext. 129.
How the Posse Is Funded
The Posse is supported and maintained entirely by donations, which come primarily from within the community we serve. Each year, October is designated as Fund Drive Month, during which the community is made aware of the Posse’s services and encouraged to support our work through individual donations. You may donate on our website using a credit card, or by check through the USPS or in person.
